KATHMANDU, RSS
The Human Resource Department (HRD) of South Korea published the results of the Korean Language Test (KLT) examinations 2010 on Thursday.
A total of 36,171 applicants attended KLT, the gateway to job opportunities in South Korea last August.
Out of the total applicants, only 4,180 aspirants have passed the exams, according to Mahesh Acharya, chief of Employment Permit System (EPS) Nepal. Among them more then 22 students passed the exams from Sherpa Training Center chahabahil.
A 91-member team from Korea came to Kathmandu on August 30 to conduct the test.
The Department of Foreign Employment will distribute certificates to those passing KLT on October 14.
In March 2008, when the government had conducted KLT for the first time, 6,768 applicants, out of 32,000, had passed the test. Of them, 6,586 were listed on the job roster and 6,400 workers had signed job contracts with Korean firms. So far, over 5,500 Nepali workers have left the country for jobs in South Korea.
Due to Nepal’s good track record in sending workers on time and supplying qualified labor under EPS scheme, the government has asked the Korean government to increase the quota for 2010.
Results have been published in www.epsnepal.gov.np

General Information
Korea, "Land of the Morning Calm," is a land of opposites existing in conjunction with each other. It combines ancient Oriental tradition with modern technology. In downtown Seoul, one can find traces of its 5,000 year history in its palaces, city gates, and temples, yet the country is also a rapidly developing nation in terms of industry, trade, and commerce.

| Education The Korean education system consists of six years of primary school, three years of middle school, then three years of high school. Those who pass the national exam go on to 4-year colleges or universities. Others go to 2-year junior colleges, while the rest enter the work force. Until recently, most middle and high schools were segregated by sex. However, because of complaints about differences in education levels between the boys and girls schools and socialization problems later in life, most schools have gone co-ed. |
| Food and Drink Geography Over 70% of the land is mountainous with the eastern regions consisting of mainly rugged mountain ranges and deep valleys. Many people enjoy hiking in the foothills and mountains. Most of the larger rivers and forests are located in the west. The coastline is dotted with bays and it has some of the highest tides in the world. The eastern coastline has many sandy beaches, while the western side consists mainly of mud flats and rocky shores. |
