36,000 Nepali youths appear in TOPIK
Some 36,000 Nepali job aspirants appeared for Employment Permit System’s (EPS) Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK), held on August 28-29 in Kathmandu.
Out of 42,050 EPS-TOPIK applicants, 36,181 appeared for the test.It is said that applications of 330 candidates were nullified on the basis of age while 5,539 did not appear in the test. People belonging to the age group of 18 to 39 years are eligible for the test.EPS Nepal, which accepted application for the test from June 15 to June 18 from 42,050 EPS aspirants, is planning to publish the result of the EPS-TOKIP on October 10.Similarly, the qualified candidates will be awarded certificates on October 14. Roster of EPS 2010 will be created in November.Human Resource Department (HRD) South Korea had sent a 91-member team to conduct EPS-TOKIP at 28 centres in Kathmandu and Lalitpur districts.
South Korea has set allocated a quota of 4,000 jobs for Nepali people under the EPS for 2010 out of the 22,000 jobs from 15 labour supplying countries.It has also termed Nepal as its best labour supplying nation and has hired 5,322 Nepali workers in the past two years under the EPS.South Korea is considered as a lucrative labour destination where Nepali migrant workers can earn up to $1,000 a month.Nepal can send workers to work in fields such as agriculture, fishery, construction, manufacturing and services in Korea.The Nepal government has also asked South Korea to increase the job quota for Nepali workers.
